This stunning Dogfish/Shark Woman Frontlet was hand-carved in 2024 by Haida Master Carver Ron Russ. It has been intricately carved from yew wood and adorned with 5 inlays of abalone and 22 inlays of Elk bone.
The Dogfish Woman Symbol or Shark Woman Symbol represents one of the most powerful and elusive supernatural beings of Haida mythology, a powerful shaman. The story of how she became a shaman of extraordinary power is now lost, but we know that her power came from the spirit of the Dogfish, of the Shark family.
